At InterviewsUnlocked, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and our Chrome browser extension ("Interviews Buddy").

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

1.1 Account & Personal Information

  • Contact information (name and email address, obtained when you sign in with Google)
  • Payment information (processed by our payment provider Razorpay; we do not store full card details on our servers)
  • Profile information you choose to provide, such as your resume content used to personalize answers

1.2 Interview Content (collected only by the Chrome extension, only while an interview is active)

  • Tab audio from the meeting tab you are interviewing in (Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom), captured via the Chrome tabCapture API after you explicitly click "Start session".
  • Microphone audio from your local input device, captured to attribute candidate vs. interviewer turns, after you grant the browser microphone permission.
  • On-screen captions read from the meeting page's DOM when the platform is showing live captions (so we don't need to transcribe audio when captions are already available).
  • Interviewer questions and the AI-generated answers shown in the overlay, plus a short rolling history of your interview turns used to keep the AI's suggestions consistent across the session.

Audio capture starts only when you click "Start session" and stops the moment you click "End interview", close the meeting tab, or close the browser. The extension does not record, save, or transmit audio at any other time.

1.3 Usage & Diagnostic Information

  • Interview duration, paid attempts used and remaining, and feature events (start, stop, regenerate)
  • Basic technical logs (timestamps, error messages) used to diagnose service issues
  • Authentication tokens and session identifiers stored locally in your browser via chrome.storage.local so you stay signed in

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • Transcribe interviewer audio and generate suggested answers in real time (the core function of the extension)
  • Personalize answers using the resume you provide
  • Maintain your signed-in session and bill paid attempts correctly
  • Diagnose service errors and improve quality
  • Communicate service updates and respond to support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your audio, captions, interview content, or resume to train AI models, and we do not sell or share this content with anyone outside the strictly-necessary processors listed in section 4.

3. Data Storage, Retention, and Security

Audio chunks are streamed to our backend (api.interviewsunlocked.com) for transcription and are not retained after the interview ends. Transcripts and AI answers shown during a session are kept in volatile session state for the duration of the interview and discarded when the session ends.

The following data is retained for the period indicated:

  • Account record (name, email, attempt balance) — until you request deletion
  • Payment records (required for tax and accounting compliance) — 7 years
  • Service logs (no interview content) — 30 days
  • Resume text you uploaded — until you remove it from your profile or request account deletion

Data is stored on secure servers (Google Cloud Firestore for account data; the audio-processing backend runs on encrypted infrastructure with TLS in transit). However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Sharing With Third-Party Processors

We share data only with the following processors, and only to the minimum extent required to deliver the service:

  • Google Firebase — authentication (Google sign-in), account database, and Cloud Functions for backend logic.
  • Speech-to-text and large-language-model providers — interviewer audio and on-screen captions are sent to third-party transcription and LLM providers to produce the suggested answers. We use enterprise-tier APIs whose terms prohibit retention or use of inputs for model training. We may change providers from time to time and will update this policy if the categories of data shared materially change.
  • Razorpay — payment processing for attempt purchases. Razorpay receives the order amount, currency, and a transaction id; full card details never reach our servers.
  • Hosting / cloud infrastructure providers — for serving the website, the API, and static assets.

We may also disclose information to legal authorities when required by law, court order, or to protect our rights or the safety of our users. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information for marketing purposes.

5. Browser Permissions Requested by the Chrome Extension

The extension requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is used only for the purpose described and never beyond it:

  • tabCapture + activeTab — capture interviewer audio from the meeting tab when you start an interview.
  • offscreen — host the audio recorder, since the MV3 service worker cannot run a recorder directly.
  • scripting — inject the in-tab content script that reads captions and renders the overlay on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
  • storage — persist your sign-in, current session id, and answer-shape preferences locally.
  • tabs — detect when the meeting tab closes (so we can stop audio capture) and open the overlay/sign-in/payment popups.
  • alarms — drive the interview timer.
  • Host permissions for meet.google.com, teams.microsoft.com, teams.live.com, and *.zoom.us — inject the content script and read captions on supported meeting platforms.
  • Host permissions for api.interviewsunlocked.com, login.interviewsunlocked.com, our Firebase project domains, and securetoken.googleapis.com — communicate with our own backend, sign-in page, and Firebase auth refresh endpoint.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal information
  • Object to or restrict the processing of your data
  • Receive a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time (where processing is based on consent)
  • Opt-out of marketing communications

To exercise any of these rights — including a full account and data deletion request — email us at contact@interviewsunlocked.com from the address associated with your account. We respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to measure aggregate usage. The Chrome extension itself does not use third-party tracking or advertising cookies; it uses chrome.storage.local only to store your sign-in state and preferences. You can control website cookies through your browser settings.

8. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on our website with a revised "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the service after such modifications constitutes your acknowledgment of the modified Privacy Policy.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, where data protection laws may differ. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your information receives adequate protection regardless of where it is processed.
